Fall Protection Training

OSHA’s general industry fall protection requirements cover a wide range of situations and job tasks. Walking/working surfaces includes: housekeeping, aisles and passageways, industrial stairs, floor and wall openings, platforms, skylights, ladders and fixed ladders, scaffolding, manually propelled ladder stands, and others. Powered platforms, manlifts, and vehicle-mounted work platforms regulations address a vast array of equipment. Personal Protective Equipment and Personal Fall Arrest Systems round out the requirements.

The OSHA General Duty clause states each employer “shall furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees”.  This has been interpreted in the past as requiring compliance with accepted industry standards that address “recognized hazards” such as the fall protection codes, ANSI/ASSE Z-359.
