OSHA regulations for the control of hazardous energy (Lockout/Tagout) requires that training ensures:
- The purpose and function of the lockout/tag out program is fully understood by both affected, authorized and other personnel.
- Authorized persons have the knowledge and skills to effectively carry out the program.
“Authorized” employee – physically installs and removes the lockout/tagout devices.
“Affected” employees whose work or equipment is directly impacted by the lockout/tagout.
“Other” employees are those whose work is or may be in the area of the lockout/tagout is being utilized.

Lockout/Tagout Training for Authorized Employees

Allied’s safety professionals will work with you to design and deliver an in depth authorized personnel training program specific to your Energy Control Program and Equipment including hands on training, and participant job skill & knowledge assessments (written and practical). This program includes:
- Requirements of OSHA regulations.
- Purpose and function of your Energy Control Program and equipment.
- Recognition of applicable hazardous energy sources, including type and magnitude.
- Methods and means necessary for energy isolation and control (your machine and equipment specific energy control procedures for shutdown, verification and start-up procedures.
- The proper use and limitations of your lockout/tagout equipment.
- Shift transfer and group lockout/tag out procedures.
- Communication with affected and other employees
- Provide certification of the training and assessments.
Lockout/Tagout Training for Affected and Other Employees
(Initial or Refresher)
Allied’s safety professionals will work with you to design and deliver an affected and other personnel informational training program including written knowledge assessments. This program includes:
- Requirements of OSHA regulations.
- Purpose and function of your energy control program and equipment.
- Recognition of a lockout/tagout procedure utilization.
- Prohibition relating to attempts to restart or re-energize locked out/tagged out machines or equipment.
- Prohibitions against tampering with or removing lockout equipment or tags.
